Each bar is unique in color due to its hand-crafted quality.  This is a lye-based (sodium hydroxide) soap. When combined with fats and oils (olive, shea, etc.) this soap provides benefits for skincare.  Its alkaline nature helps to cleanse the skin by breaking down oils and removing dirt.
